![]() ![]() IGN: What kind of weapons can we expect to see? Morawiec: All the classic weapons are back – machine gun, rockets, missiles, cannon, mortar and mines. We are able to deliver impressive amounts of destruction, particle effects, water effects and more, but the biggest addition is obviously online multiplayer and full integration with Xbox LIVE. The car physics are more realistic and sophisticated, the terrain surfaces are patch-rendered for ultra smoothness, and you can now see across the entire arena. IGN: What kind of improvements have you been able to make thanks to the Xbox 360 hardware? Morawiec: The improvements are primarily in the area of new technology and HD visuals, so the feeling of immersion is far greater. Free Wheelin' is a new mode, where you can experience the arenas without any bots present, just having fun destroying things and finding 'alien artifacts' for a secret unlockable (wink-wink). In Custom Battle, players can customize all aspects of the match – the arena, wreck count, the bots. Quick Battle lets players jump straight into battle with just a few button clicks. We think the hardcore V8 fans will especially appreciate this, even if just to compare how far the game has come in terms visuals. We are excited to reveal in this interview that the unlockables in this mode are… the *original* V8 vehicles, in all their low-poly, pixelated glory! Once unlocked, these cars can be used in any other mode, including online. The Quest is a progression of a few progressively harder battles for each character, interspersed with fun narrative, culminating in a Boss fight. IGN: What's the single-player mode like in Vigilante 8: Arcade? Any exclusive content to the Xbox Live Arcade release? Morawiec: Single-player comes with four options: Quest, Quick Battle, Custom Battle, and Free Wheelin'. You will recognize the characters, cars, and arenas, but it's a new interpretation. The first option would satisfy only the most passionate of fans, while the third option would confuse all the newcomers it's been 10 years! So, a remake seemed the best way to go - a fresh new game, strongly rooted in the original themes and gameplay, but custom-tailored for today's hardware. Morawiec: We like the term "re-imagined." Early in the project, we had to make the decision whether to simply port the old game(s), develop a remake, or create V8: Part III. Explain the content within Vigilante 8: Arcade. IGN: We understand that this game is neither a true sequel to the second game, but nor is it a true port. However, the founding members are all industry vets, having previously founded Luxoflux and developed both the Vigilante 8 and True Crime franchises, among many other games. So, by choosing XBLA we are in fact providing massively more value per dollar to the player IGN: What other projects has Isopod worked on? Morawiec: Vigilante 8: Arcade is our first title under Isopod. V8: Arcade has virtually all of the functionality of the original, plus, a full new online experience. However, V8 always was a very focused 'arcade' title and we felt that we could deliver a full next-gen version of the game within the 150MB allotted by XBLA, sans cinematics and a few music tracks perhaps. ![]() Much of that time is spent on things like cinematics, additional game modes, mini-games, and other extras to justify a full retail price. ![]() YES NO IGN: Why not make this a full-fledged retail release and make a XBLA title instead? Morawiec: A full retail title requires big budgets, large teams, and long development cycles. ![]()
